NANCY PIONK

A WHOLISTIC APPROACH TO CHANGE AND CONFLICT MANAGEMENT

MY BACKGROUND

Over the last 20 years I served in multiple leadership roles with Community Mediation Services (CMS), an agency that provides conflict resolution services, facilitation and training to the Southwest Washington community. In that role, I have provided mediation and facilitation services and training to hundreds of participants. I led the transition of CMS from a local government agency into a nonprofit and served as its first Executive Director for six years.  As a coach, I have worked with individuals in transition as well as private and non-profit leaders. My experience includes working with the private sector, state and local government agencies, nonprofit organizations and community organizations.

ABOUT ME
"... keep knocking, and the Joy inside will eventually open a window and look out to see who's there." – Rumi

I am a professional coach and conflict management expert with over 20 years of experience in helping people navigate through the intersections of change and conflict. Joy is the bridge that connects all my work. When I experience and express my joy, I feel connected and creative and the possibilities in life seem limitless.

As a coach, I guide clients through the creative process of change, helping them achieve their professional and personal development goals. I know that when people find and experience their joy, they naturally create a path for themselves with more meaning, connection and growth.

As a mediator and facilitator, my goal is to help people experience more ease and understanding with each other. I help them remove obstacles to their joy so they can focus on what matters most. As a trainer, I help people develop skills to effectively communicate, collaborate and adapt to continuous change. I design trainings that are journeys of playful discovery and growth.

When I am not working, I enjoy hiking and biking with friends in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. I love meeting up with my 11 brothers and sisters and traveling throughout the U.S. and Europe. I am a season ticket holder for Portland's Thorns soccer team. Finally, I am an emerging
Nia Teacher and have earned my White, Blue, Brown and Green Belts in this wholistic fitness practice that combines dance, martial arts and mindfulness.

COACHING

I received my coaching certification from the esteemed Hudson Institute of Coaching in 2016 and have experience providing Executive, Leadership, Transition, and Conflict Coaching in the non-profit, private and government sectors.

MEDIATION AND NEGOTIATION

Mediation and Negotiation:  I have over 20 years of mediation and negotiation experience involving hundreds of different types of disputes including neighbor-to-neighbor, business and partnerships, contract, landlord/tenant, victim-offender, workplace, foreclosure, and police/citizen dialogues in the cities of Portland and Vancouver.

FACILITATION

I am a large group facilitator and have designed and facilitated numerous internal workgroups, strategic planning sessions and retreats for leadership teams and commissions including the City of Portland Watershed Programs Division, Vancouver Police and Fire Department, Workforce Southwest Washington, and the Vancouver Urban Forestry Commission. I was the facilitator for the City of Vancouver’s diversity team for seven years, and supported the team’s efforts to develop a diversity policy, create a formal Diversity Council and advocate for a dedicated diversity coordinator position. I also served as the City’s interim diversity coordinator.

I have over ten years’ experience in providing Professional Mediation Training and have extensive experience in designing and presenting communication, decision-making, customer service, team-building and conflict resolution trainings.  I have mentored and coached hundreds of mediators and provided conflict coaching to hundreds of participants.
